FAQ

Must I register on the site?
You don't need to register to consult the titles included in your library's Torrossa collection. You will need to register if you wish to create your own workspace and make use of the additional study tools this offers: save searches, tags and comments, organise your research and compile/export lists and bibliographies.
All user data is protected in accordance with Article 13 of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) (GDPR) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and the Italian Legislative Decree No. 196/2003 ("Italian Privacy Code") and subsequent additions.

What type of documents are present on the platform?
Torrossa digital content is available in PDF or ePub formats: you can download Acrobat Reader here to read PDFs and click here to download the Torrossa Reader application to read ePubs.

I can't find what I'm looking for. What can I do?
Talk to your librarian: it may be possible for the library to acquire what you need. Alternatively, you might want to take a look at our digital bookstore (www.torrossa.com), where there's an even wider range of content available for direct purchase by individuals.

Documents in PDF format
What programs do I need to open PDF documents?
Files can only be opened with Acrobat Reader XI and subsequent versions, on all platforms for which Acrobat Reader is available.

How can I get Adobe Reader and how much does it cost?
The Acrobat Reader software can be downloaded for free from the Adobe website here.

Why can I only consult PDF documents with Acrobat Reader?
The documents are protected for copyright reasons, and this is why you need the Acrobat Reader program to consult them. The files are intended for the personal and exclusive use of members and patrons of the library/institution.

I have installed Acrobat Reader but I can't open the documents: what can I do?
The procedure for opening documents can be found here.

I downloaded Torrossa Reader but it doesn't open PDFs, why?
The Torrossa Reader application is currently only for use with ePub format. The PDFs on Torrossa can only be opened with Acrobat Reader.

What can I do with the documents I download?
The usage options for each document are indicated, including download limitations, expiry (if applicable), permissions for copy/paste of the text and printing. These details can also be visualised by using your mouse to position the cursor over the "download" icon.

I downloaded a document on my computer but I would like to move it to a tablet or mobile phone to consult it from there: is this possible?
Of course: just download the file on your device and open it with the previously installed Acrobat Reader App.

Documents in ePub format
How can I open Torrossa ePub documents?
To read the ePub files purchased on Torrossa, simply download the Torrossa Reader application, available free of charge from the App Store of your device.

Can I read Torrossa ePub files with other readers (eg Kindle, Kobo ...)?
The Torossa ePub documents can only be consulted with the Torrossa Reader. It is not possible to download Torrossa ePubs on other platforms (eg Kindle or Kobo) as these have their own reading systems.

Why do I have to enter the e-mail address when I want to download an epub?
The e-mail address is required by the system to be able to assign a licence to the downloaded documents. This is requested the first time you download an ePub and is kept in memory for the entire work session. If the reading session expires, or is closed, or you change your browser, you will need to enter the address again. The e-mail address will not be requested if you enter access.torrossa.com and log in with your site registration credentials.

The system asks me to enter my passphrase, what does this mean?
The 'passphrase' is the identification associated with the file and corresponds to the e-mail address you used when you downloaded the file.
The passphrase for the app is required only once unless you use different e-mail addresses than those entered for the first download. The passphrase field recognizes uppercase-lowercase (case sensitive) and it is therefore advisable to be careful when entering data.

I downloaded Torrossa Reader but the system opens the ePubs with a different application, what should I do?
On your system, the default application for opening ePub files is different from Torrossa Reader.
We therefore recommend that you make Torrossa Reader the default application by following the procedures provided by your system, or open Torrossa Reader and then upload the file.

What can I do with the documents I download?
In the "information" section for each ePub document you will find the usage permissions and an expiry time - if applicable. It is not possible to print ePub files.

I’ve forgotten what the usage options are for a document I downloaded: how can I find them?
A summary of the permissions is available on Torrossa Reader by selecting the info icon or the lock icon, depending on whether you have the desktop or mobile app or, in the desktop version, on the three dots next to the title.

The file download procedure is blocked and I cannot find the document in my reader app, what can I do?
Simply go back to the access.torrossa.com website and click on Download.

I have downloaded a document to my computer but I would like to move it to a mobile device, is this possible?
Of course: just install the Torrossa Reader App on the new device and then download the ePub file from the 'My library' section on the Torrossa website. EPub files downloaded from access.torrossa.com maintain their usage options when moved to a new device.
